I relate to this article entirely. I struggled a lot this time last year trying to figure out what I was doing after graduating high school. I had already been working as a marketing director for three years and writing for even longer. Being able to justify that I would save thousands in debt AND be able to continue working was so much more enticing then going to school for longer.
The unfortunate part is many people making hiring decisions come from a time where the piece of paper is still important. Many places auto sort you out without a degree which is unfortunate and can make it difficult, but only highlights the necessity of networking and building your personal brand.
